ZooNation dance company – the resident company from Sadler’s Wells in London visited Tretherras to deliver an aspiring GCSE dance workshop on Tuesday 11th February. Andrey Ortelia braved the public transport difficulties and inspired the 25, year 9 students taking part by teaching them technique and repertoire from the ZooNation Company’s performances.
The students were impressed with his accolades, the most notable of which was performing with Beyonce and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from a professional from the industry whilst experiencing a ‘taster’ of GCSE dance.
GCSE dance students also get the opportunity to attend theatre visits, deliver dance to younger students at Tretherras in extra-curricular clubs which contributes towards their achievement of their dance leaders award, perform in showcases both at Tretherras and in the wider community and participate in further workshops with visiting industry professionals.
Many of the students involved in the workshop are considering dance as a GCSE option next year and the dance department look forward to seeing them in GCSE in year 10.
