Saturday 3rd October 2015 saw the last of the three Youth University sessions take place at Newquay Tretherras.
Over 120 Year 5 and 6 pupils, along with their parents, from across the Newquay area took part in a range of sporting activities in the Tretherras Youth University Sports sessions.
The biggest of the Youth University sessions gave young sporting athletes the opportunity to take advantage of the facilities at Newquay Tretherras, the new Advanced Academy Fitness Suite and the Newquay Sports Centre. With a broad range of sports on offer that included football, hockey, netball, indoor athletics, rock climbing and the ever popular trampolining, budding sports stars, parents, Tretherras Sports Leaders and Tretherras Specialist Sports Staff enjoyed a glorious sunny Saturday morning.
New this year the ‘Move It’ sessions gave all fitness fanatics a taste of the elite programmes on offer in the new Advanced Academy Fitness Suite.
To finish off the sporting morning, Mr Craig Richards, Head of PE at Tretherras handed out certificates and prizes. Mr Richards commented, ‘We have a great sporting programme at Tretherras and encourage participation and engagement with all students. Our Sports Leaders are fantastic role models and our PE staff are experts in their sports.’
The Youth University sports programme completed a very successful 3 week programme that gave young learners opportunities to experience Creative Art, STEM subjects and different Sports delivered at Newquay Tretherras.
Mr. White, Director of Transition at Newquay Tretherras, commented, ‘It is always wonderful to see pupils and parents enjoying many subjects: Art, Drama, Music, Dance, Science, Technology, Maths, as well as the all the sports. We want all our students to enjoy their subjects at Tretherras and hope you have all got a good flavour of what is on offer at our school.’
Frankie and Jodie from St. Columb Minor, after collecting their certificates said, ‘We’ve enjoyed all three weekends, they’ve been real fun.’
