A selection of Newquay Tretherras’ top scientists in Years 7 & 8 recently got the chance to go to the Big Bang Science Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.

The pupils were involved in a number of interactive activities, from making their own DNA, seeing if they had what it took to join GCHQ, to looking at problem solving activities for the national grid and issues inside nuclear powerplants.

The show also ran a series of careers activities to inspire students to see themselves as the scientists and engineers of the future, and to help them understand the hands-on challenges scientists and engineers face every day.

Mr Adam MacQueen, Deputy Head of Science said, “The Big Bang Science fair was an inspirational day for our top Year 7 and 8 scientists, with every pupil getting something different out of the day. The pupils were a credit to themselves and enjoyed every aspect of the show.”
