English

Students will be sitting two papers  that will last  1 hour and 45 minutes: one hour will be a question on Animal Farm and 45 minutes will be a writing question – a description or story based on an image or opening line. 

To revise, students should revise the plot of the novel and know the key events.  They should also know the key characters and have key quotations to support their discussions.  They will not be allowed a copy of the text in the exam so they must learn 5-10 quotations that they can use in the exam.

If students have revision guides they can work through the questions in the guides to help them.  If students do not have a revision guides, here are some links:

History will be sitting a 1 hour GCSE paper on International Relations

That will mean they need to revise the whole of the topic/text book.

Topics to Revise:

  • Unit 1.1 Distinctive Landscapes of the UK (National Parks)
  • Fieldwork (Dartmoor)

View Key Word sheets:

Ensure you learn the Key Word sheets for Unit 1.1 and 1.2a, as well as revising the content.

Bring a Calculator to your exam, plus a pencil and ruler. 

Read all the instructions/information on each page/question/title/key etc. 

You will have a colour booklet of resources with facts/maps/graphs/ photographs. You MUST use EVIDENCE from these in your answer when directed to do so. Use phrases like:
on the map there is … photograph 2.6 shows me … and “quote” facts 

The test will include information about a place(s) you have not learnt about. You are expected to apply what you have learnt to answer the questions.

 The Final Decision Making Question (12 Marks plus 4 SPAG) 

The final question will be a big decision (with options to choose from) about a place you have never studied:

  • There is no right or wrong answer!!! (You get marks for persuading the examiner why you that is the best decision)
  • You must use EVIDENCE from the resource booklet to JUSTIFY your choice
  • Use your WIDER UNDERSTANDING to explain (chains of reasoning).
  • You can bring in ideas from your own case studies too, to help argue! 
  • Use the 3, 2, 1 STRATEGY to JUSTIFY. Each reason must be backed up with evidence and explanation (with connectives).
