On Wednesday the 25th June, Newquay Tretherras held a Transfer Day for 269 Year 6 students who make up the school’s new Year 7 intake of 2014.

Pupils from across the 12 feeder primary schools attended the day which aimed to make them feel comfortable and confident about starting their new school in September.

Tretherras laid on a wide range of activities and taster lessons so that the pupils could get used to “Learning the Tretherras Way” and get experience of what their time at secondary school will be like.

Ellen Donald and Jossie Couch, Year 6 students from Cubert School said, “Our DT lesson that we had today has been really fun, as we got to design and create our own pizzas! We’re really excited to start at Tretherras now!”

The pupils also got to spend time in their new tutor groups with their tutor for the year ahead, mixing with each other and making new friends from different primary schools.

Senior students acted as ‘Buddies’ for the day to help the new pupils to settle in and offer support and guidance, drawing on their own personal experience of moving into a new school environment.

Mr White, Director of Transition at Newquay Tretherras, said, “Although most of the pupils had already visited Tretherras over the last few years at a variety of workshops, events and open days, it is important that they’ve had this day so that they can begin to develop a year group identity which they will carry through for the next five years.”

Ms Hurley, Head of Year said, “It has been a pleasure meeting all the new Year 7’s today! They have been enthusiastic and well behaved – we look forward to welcoming them in properly on Friday 5th September!”
