Two Outstanding Academies Discuss Future

TWO OUTSTANDING ACADEMIES DISCUSS FUTURE

21st January 2013 – The Governing Bodies of Newquay Junior Academy and Newquay Tretherras met on Thursday 17th January to discuss the formation of a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), which would be a single Trust governing both schools.

The Governors of both schools voted to move to a full consultation with all stakeholders and the drawing up of a strategic business plan. The purpose of the MAT would to create an outstanding and inspirational all-through 7-19 academy serving the Newquay community.

Newquay Junior (NJ) and Newquay Tretherras (NT) have a long standing history of very close partnership with a shared ethos of caring “family” relationships. The vast majority of NJ pupils continue their education at NT and a formal structure is now proposed to capitalise on these very powerful links so that education becomes a seamless and continuous journey from 7 – 19. It is the vision of the MAT to create an educational provision which is “greater than the sum of its parts” and focuses on the holistic nature of educating young people to become happy, healthy, fulfilled and well educated human beings, capable of enriching and improving their communities.

The move to a MAT is timely as the National Funding Formula will place imperatives on all schools to share resources and create efficiencies: all schools are being encouraged to become part of Trusts, Partnerships and/or amalgamate.

On 31 January 2013 there will be an information session for the staff of both schools at 3.30pm and for parents and governors of both schools at 5pm in the senior hall at Newquay Tretherras. Consultation meetings will follow during February.
