Following a course of indoor rock climbing sessions, ten Newquay Tretherras students took on the task of passing on their skills to Year 6 Newquay Junior children, teaching them to climb at Newquay Sports Centre.
The Year 9 & 10 Tretherras students supervised the younger children and encouraged them to attempt a variety of challenging routes on the climbing wall.
As well as learning the basics of climbing, the instructing students focussed on health and safety issues surrounding the sport and practiced correct belaying techniques.
Mr Chris Gard, lead teacher on the day said, “Both the Primary and Secondary school students enjoyed a great morning, overcoming fears and pushing themselves to achieve goals.”
He continued, “Our students were a great credit to the school in both the way that they conducted themselves and by the way they embraced the climbing course.”
