The last Newquay Tretherras event of 2013 year set the scene for the festive holidays. Students and staff were involved in production and performances for the night, which played to a full audience of parents, governors and the PTA who were VIP guests.
A cross-school collaboration led by the Music department showcased a variety of musicality, a Staff and Sixth Form choir and also included a mini Christmas play to set everyone in the right mood for the Christmas Holidays.
Mr Grahaeme Jones who compeered the evening proceeding provided a wealth of luxury Christmas Cracker jokes, that left the audience asking for more.
A beautiful duet candle light performance from by Millie Edmonds and Hannah Kerkin opened the evening with the Christmas Carol of ‘Silent Night’.
Newquay string, Saxophone Quartet, Samba band performed upbeat rhythms showing off individual talents of students. The combined staff and Sixth Form choir gave two impressive performances before the Drama department entertained with a mini adaptation of ‘A Christmas Carol’. Stand out performance of the night came fro Lee Hancock, who played Scrouge.
This year the retiring collection was in aid of the Philippines Typhoon fund raising appeal by. The Year 10 students who have championed the cause in school aim to raise enough funds to buy a ShelterBox. The Year group have been strongly supported by the whole school and particularly by the ever impressive Year 7 students. The Year 10 choir Treble Making along with the Year 7 choir ‘Vocal 7’ performed an incredibly moving rendition of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’.
The Tretherras Jazz, who this year have toured Italy and played The Royal Alert Hall, closed the evening to secure everyone was in the festive mood
Mrs Martin closed the concert by thanking all who attended and wished everyone a Happy Christmas and A Prosperous New Year.
