Success for Charlotte

2013_01_19_Cornwall Schools XC Champs_0055-2Newquay Tretheras Sixth Form student, Charlotte Cayton-Smith, is currently placed amongst the top female athletes in the county for the 800m. The 16 year old, who aspires to become a Great British Athlete, is ranked 1st in the UK under 20’s and 5th overall in the women’s all age group.

Frequently attending weekend competitions enables Charlotte to boost her rankings which increases her chances of possibly being picked for GB’s 2016 Olympic Team. Recently, Charlotte came first in the Cornwall County Championships as well as achieving the same result the previous weekend in the Cardiff Indoor Cup, an open entry competition.

Charlotte is hoping to study Sports Science at University and peruse a career in Physiotherapy. “I have had offers from Universities in America, but would love to go to Cardiff or Birmingham and continue running at the best level I can.”

Charlotte added, “My Mum and Dad are a huge support, particularly as they are the ones that drive me to all my meets. Mr John Scott at Newquay Tretherras is also incredible – his knowledge and support as my mentor is everything.”

One of her biggest race events in the coming year will see her competing in the England Under 20s in London on 1st and 2nd of March which will hopefully see her continue her string of successes.
