Over the Easter holidays, 49 students of Newquay Tretherras enjoyed a week skiing and snowboarding on the slopes of Zell Am See-Kaprun in Austria.
The group were given five hours of skiing and snowboarding lessons each day before making the most of the hotel’s extensive facilities in the evening, including volleyball and basketball courts, trampolines and a 120 seat cinema.
During their time away, the pupils also attended an exhibition ice hockey match and enjoyed a pizza and bowling night.
Year 8 students, exhilarated by the experience have been sharing the buzz with other year groups in assemblies.
Angela Staffieri commented, “It was my first Ski trip and the scenery was breathtaking. The resort was amazing with something different to do every night. I particularly enjoyed the snow park with all the incredible snow ramps.”
Richard Higginson, Director of Sport and Creative Arts commented, “In my 20 years of teaching, I would say it was by far the best overseas trip that the school has held. The facilities, students and staff were all fantastic and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
However, it wasn’t just fun for all the students. Tretherras PE students were able to take advantage of the snow to video their GCSE technical modules by performing snowboarding manoeuvres.
Due to the success of the trip, the school is already advertising the holiday to students for April 2015. Places are going fast, with 20 bookings taken on the first day back of term.
Iwan Ellis Davies added, ‘You are with great friends all the time, even the teachers seem different, the resort is just amazing, It’s just a fantastic trip.”
