In Year 12 you will be given the opportunity to sign up for the NTOL Leadership programme. This consists of a number of after school sessions on leadership skills, child protection, first aid, expedition supervision and technical skills.
The core programme lasts for 12 months and therefore counts for the Gold DofE volunteering section (you can also enrole for vInvolved Awards for volunteering) and by submitting a portfolio of evidence can lead to ASDAN accreditation (Leadership Short Course). You will also be expected to put your skills into practice helping run activities with the younger students. This may include Bronze & Silver DofE, Climbing & Kayaking Club, Bushcraft, ASC and Junior Camp.
On graduation from this programme you will receive a certificate and become a Senior NTOL Leader. If you choose to continue to volunteer you will be eligible to help out on some of the more advanced programmes such as Gold DofE and the Gap Year Preparation Course. Senior leaders can also continue their ASDAN accreditation through the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness that can count for 70 UCAS points at many universities. As a NTOL Leader you are very much part of the team. Much of the direction of Outdoor Learning at Tretherras comes from you and it is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills.
