In Phase one at Tretherras we offer an academically challenging curriculum that demands the very best from our students. We are proud of our traditional, broad and balanced curriculum, which has been commended in previous Ofsted inspections.

Lessons are delivered by subject specialists and are delivered as separate subjects. To further support students’ progress in the core subjects students study Literacy and Numeracy as discrete lessons alongside English and Maths. They also benefit from studying two Modern Foreign Languages: French and Spanish throughout Phase one. There is a comprehensive programme of creative subjects including Art, Music, Drama and Design and Technology and for our budding young sports men and women NT Sport delivers both PE and Games lessons. In addition there is an extensive extracurricular programme available to support students with their wide range of interests and career ambitions.

The curriculum enables students to become confident individuals, responsible citizens and successful learners who can fulfil their early promise and latent potential within and beyond the classroom. We value every student equally and commit to providing a totally inclusive, challenging and rich learning experience with comprehensive support for students with special educational needs and barriers to learning.

Our student’s personal growth is further supported by the delivery of the Tretherras Way which encompasses three strands: NT Ready, NT Character and NT Wellbeing. Through this comprehensive programme students engage with assemblies and challenges during the tutorial programme and SMSC lessons and develop both a sense of personal identity and a sense of belonging to our school and wider community.

The high standards that students achieve are the result of outstanding teaching, our teachers plan fun and engaging lessons that allow students to learn deeply and understand widely. This is supported by personal guidance from a team of caring and experienced staff and a close partnership between the school, local primary schools and parents.
