KS5 Awards Evening 2013

Students returned home, from their first term at University, to concluded the Year and celebrating the achievements of the 2013 Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form on Monday the 16th December 2013.

Accompanied by parents the evening at the Carnmarth Hotel gave students the opportunity to collect their qualification certificates and be recognised for their accomplishments. In 2013 Tretherras students gained an excellent set of exam results, seeing increases in overall pass rates and Average Points Score per student from 2012 at A Level, AS Level and BTEC qualifications. A Level pass rates stood at 98% with over a quarter of the results being A*-B. There was 100% success in Vocational A Levels.

Mr. Steve Searl, head of Sixth form spoke about the individual characters that contributed to creating a fantastic atmosphere in the Tretherras Sixth form during the last two years.

Students were presented with awards for outstanding grades in subjects by chair of Governors Mrs. Sarah Karkeek. Special Awards for Excellence were also awarded on the night to students. Greatest Contribution to life in the Sixth form was won by Zoe-Pasco Burd. Sporting Excellence was won by Jack Bray-Evans and Lauren Norton. Award for Greatest Progress was won by Joe Miller and Best A Level results went to Jack Anstis. The Jill Stanley Shield for Community Service was won by Jade Rush. The Hamish Cameron Award for outstanding Duke of Edinburgh volunteer work went to Daniel Dearling. Lynne Robertson Award for Art was won by Jamie Mitchell.

Mr Steve Searle Head of Sixth Form said, “It was a pleasure to work such a smashing bunch of students. They and their parents should be very proud of what they have achieved. We had a great couple of years – plenty of laughs, a few tears and brilliant results. I wish them all the very best for the future and look forward to hearing how their careers develop.’

Mrs. Sue Martin, headteacher at Newquay Tretherras closed the evening by adding, “We are excited for you as you take on new challenges and give the best of yourselves in whatever you aim for. You will always be part of the Tretherras family as we will always be here for you”.
