CVQO Graduation

Newquay Tretherras students, Ed Moseley, Tom Kilford, Tyler McDill, George Kent, Dylan Hicks and Like Marshall all graduated on April 1st 2014 after successfully completing their CVQO BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Teamwork, Personal Skills & Citizenship.

The year 10 students were enrolled on the work-related qualification aimed at giving them the skills they need to either enhance their education and plan for future employment.

The course led by Captain Susan Edwards and Lieutenant Michelle Young from the Army Cadet Force, saw the boys take part in a gruelling 12 week course that help change perceptions and attitude towards learning.

Colonel Les Donnithorne, Commandant of the Cornwall Army Cadet Force and former Tretherras student presented the awards.

Colonel Les Donnithorne commented, ‘The boys have achieved something fantastic, I am sure that they will take this experience and use it to build upon for future success.’

Special awards were presented to Luke Marshall for top student, as voted by his peers, and to Tyler McDill for most improved student.

Mrs Sue Martin Headteacher at Newquay Tretherras said, ’You have had a very difficult journey but made significant changes, rightfully deserving your qualification. We are extremely proud of what you have done already in Year 10.’

Tyler McDill closed the ceremony by thanking Captain Susan Edwards and Lieutenant Michelle Young. Tyler commented, ‘ We really want to thank Captain Edwards and Lieutenant Young for all that they have done for us. We have learnt so much and wouldn’t have done it without the support and help.”
