On Tuesday 9th June, a group of around 35 Newquay Tretherras students joined children from all over the county to take part in the Cornwall Year 7 & 8 Athletics Championships at Par.
The school achieved outstanding results in a variety of track and field events as well as many of the students achieving personal records.
Most notably, Bradley McLellan, a Year 7, came first in the 800m, beating the previous county record by five seconds to come in at a time of 2.22.
Other outstanding Year 7 results include Summer Holland and Sydney Godwin placing second in the javelin, and Ben Hammersley coming in second in the triple jump.
Year 8 students, Ella Owen and Erin Burt, both won their events (100m and 1500m respectively), whilst Gerran Hawkey finished joint second in the high jump, adding 12cm onto his personal best.
Another fantastic Year 8 result on the day was Ngaire Jones who won the 200m and the long jump.
Mr Dean Bettle, Teacher of PE and Athletics coach said, “All the staff were extremely proud of the entire squad, particularly as they competed against so many other schools who offered strong competition.”
