On May 8th, Newquay Tretherras’ Young Enterprise group were victorious at the Cornwall finals of the competition where they were crowned the Cornish Company of the Year.
The group of students, self-named Team Tidal, also scooped the award for Most Innovative Product for their Lazy Gardener invention, an eco-friendly flowering bulb box.
Their nifty idea of a pre-packed pair bulb in biodegradable material that can either be planted very quickly, or just placed on the ground, impress the judges.
The students have made around £300 in profit during early stages of their venture and are busy developing their next line of products to prototype.
Noah Merrin, the team’s IT expert and part-time sales guru, said, “Over the past year we’ve learnt a lot about business and The Lazy Gardener has been an incredible experience for us.”
From this recent win, the team will now represent Cornwall in the Regional Finals on 16th June in Swindon.
Mr Lawrence, the teacher responsible for the group said, “The students have done fantastically well and have made both myself and Tretherras very proud!”
He continued, “Throughout the year they’ve worked exceptionally hard so I’m pleased that their hard work, effort and dedication has been rewarded in such a way!”
